Outdoor Classrooms
Student input at Rocky Hill is valued. During the Fall and Spring, our students often express the desire to take their learning outdoors. Instead of building an outdoor classroom on an single dedicated site, we decided to assess what was needed to create a "mobile" outdoor classroom so all students and teachers could take advantage of the many habitats in and around out schoolyard. Students determined that their needs were simple and inexpensive; buckets to carry supplies and serve as seating, and more clipboards! In 2012, thanks to a generous grant from our PTA, all of our students have access to our 'go anywhere' classrooms.

Bluebird Houses
In an effort to restore the area around our school to a more natural state, our GreenKids club and science clubs have built and mounted Bluebird houses on trailscapes in the areas designated as no mow around our school. In addition to the small homes, students planted trees using a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to provide additional space for nesting birds.
