Repurposed/Recycled Project Materials - Hydroponics
When our 7th grade students receive the RFP (Request for Proposal) for our Hydroponics unit they are asked to adhere to design constraints which include project space and monetary outlay. Many of our students reuse materials from home, including the recycling bin, repurposing food storage containers and food grade plastic bottles.

Lighten the Carbon Load
Students at Rocky Hill have, over the past 4 years, taken daily pro-active steps to divert our refuse from the trash stream, thus decreading our carbon output. By recycling paper and plastic, and being watchful of where they place unused food and materials, they help to keep our school green. Our student lunchroom monitors and SERT team pitch in by monitoring refuse placement and recycling pickup.

Leos Coat Recycling
Our Leos Club sponsors an annual coat drive to assist families from our area. The students chose this as a way to give their time to our school and community recycling effort - they collect the coats and the Damascus Lions Club distributes them. Keeping these repurposed coats from the landfill is just one of the benefits realized from the efforts of our students.

NJHS Marker Recycling
Our National Junior Honor Society collects markers that would otherwise end up in our landfill and sends them to a facility that recycles or re-inks them.

NJHS Book Recycling Drive
During the past 4 years, the Rocky Hill Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society has sponsored a book recycling drive to benefit the community of Clarksburg and families of our school. The books are presented to families who demonstrate financial need and serve to divert the books from our local landfill.
